|CLAUDE LELOUCH C'ETAIT UN RENDEZVOUS FERRARI 275
This is the classic 1976 Lelouch short film remastered for DVD. Basically 8 minutes of an amazing high speed drive through Paris. All done in the early morning on open roads.I first saw this on youtube and thought it was amazing even at low quality. Its great that a higher quality version is now available and it doesnt dissappoint. I stopped counting the number of red lights blatantly shot past at 15. Plenty of food for conspiracy theorists such as glimpses of headlights in shop windows. What ever the truth this is a great piece of film making made by a reckless act in a very different time. This film appeals not just to car enthusiasts but anyone interested in how film gives us a different view of the city. Breathtaking.
For many years C'était un Rendezvous has been enjoyed as an almost Masonic secret among car enthusiasts. Whisper the words Have you seen Rendezvous and you ll receive either a knowing, No, but I ve heard it s unbelievable or a smug, It is un-be-lieve-able . Filmed in 1976, the revered short film by seminal French director Claude Lelouch is regarded as the ultimate chase scene - the connoisseurs trump card in response to Bullitt or The French Connection . It is uncompromising to an astonishing degree and could only be the product of a man like Lelouch a mans man, with a string of wives, fast cars and great films behind him. Lack of availability (pirated poor quality VHS copies were being traded at $50 on the internet) has only fuelled the myths surrounding the film. Was Lelouch really arrested when it was first shown ? Who drove the car ? Was it Lelouch or a hired Formula One driver ? What was the car ? Was it really a Ferrari 275 GTB ? How did he do it ?
